About me
Thank you for visiting my site! My name is Cory Bevan, I was born and raised on Prince Edward Island. When I turned 18, I moved over to Halifax, Nova Scotia to attend 2D/3D Animation at The Center for Arts and Technology. After a few months I decided it wasn't right for me and transferred in to Digital Filmmaking. I consider myself an artist and am involved in many different forms of art, including: filmmaking, acting, graphic art and writing. I love learning about anything and everything, as long as people have the time to teach. A life view I have is "It's the journey and not the destination that is important". If you want to know about me I have provided a detailed list of anything that came to mind about what I do below. If you find it is too long, skip to the parts that pertain to your needs.
Film
I graduated from The Center for Arts and Technology in 2008 with my Digital Fillmaking diploma. While I was attending the school I had the pleasure of working with some real quality and very talented people. I was part of First Run Productions, lead by a very wonderful mentor, teacher, and friend, Daniel Gaynor. I had also had the privilege of working with a very skilled teacher, and now friend, Kevin Fraser. During the time I spent at the school, we were responsible as a class to make 1 thirty second commercial, 1 one minute short, 2 five minute shorts, a made for web show, and a half hour to forty-five minute film.
Our projects were the following:
A Fast Acting Solution - Writer/Art Director
When Boxes Attack! - My own personal one minute short
In the Woods - Documentarian/Sound/Lighting/P.A/Grip
Defined - Sound/Lighting/Grip/P.A
Attention-Span - Assistant Editor/Actor/Camera Operator/P.A/Director
Wolf Dream - Editor
Other outside projects I worked on while going to film school include:
A Cape Breton Ghost Story - Compositor
Sticks and Stones - Background
Cookie Fashion Show (advertisement for local stores) - Assistant Photographer/Compositor/Background
I have taken acting lessons at The Confederation Center of the Arts 'Summer Acting Program', and have just recently finished taking Joshua Young's 5 week acting class.
I have taken part in these plays in public school:
Medieval Feast - Squire
Forever Free - Rapper #1
Little Red Riding Hood - Little Boy Blue
All's Well That Ends as You Like - Testicleo; the witty clown
Film acting includes:
Silent Film - Jerk
The Hard Way - Dead Guy/Lover
Attention-Span - Dr. Michael, Hitman/Mobster, Hostage Taker/Robber, Background
Common Sense (commercial) - Idiot Lacking Common Sense
Music Video - Young Version of Homeless Guy
Art
In 2006 when I first started going to The Center for Arts and Technology, I started out in 2D/3D Animation. I may have left it to take Digital Filmmaking, but still I love drawing and using Photoshop. Some of the projects I have done for fun, and other people, on the Arts and Visual side of things include working as a compositor on a cookie fashion show and a CBC Short called "A Cape Breton Ghost Story". I am continuing to learn more about programs, like After Effects, and hope to learn more about Maya.
Writing
I have had a poem published in a book; I have won an essay contest, for the Government of Canada, on making life better for youth; and I was an advice columnist for youth in a local "run by youth for youth" news paper, under the title 'Ask the Boss'. It was distributed throughout out the town, and local schools. When I was in college I wrote a 30 second commercial that our film class shot called "A Fast Acting Solution". I hope to write more in the future.
Thanks for reading,
Cory Bevan.
